Visas for Life Foundation was founded in 1997 by Hiroki Sugihara, oldest son of Chiune, to perpetuate the legacy of his father.
You might be asking, "What is the Sugihara legacy?" The answer is a simple and basic one. His legacy is about caring for humanity and the dignity of life.
Humanity concerns life and all the kind, compassionate things that we must do for each other to preserve human dignity and integrity.
The Foundation's mission is to educate people about the value of life and about what is essential for humanity.
We must first learn from the stories of those who have demonstrated their humanitarianism.
Our goal is to continue to produce events, activities, and publications that honor the work of heroes like Chiune Sugihara who, in the face of danger, acted courageously and selflessly. We also plan to share the personal testimonies of individuals whose lives or human rights were saved.
Our hope is that, as more people learn of these purely altruistic deeds, they will understand that "one person can make a difference."
Our dream is that, by promoting diplomacy and humanitarianism, we can help to ensure that people all over the world have the right to live with dignity and respect.
You can help! As a non-profit educational organization, the Foundation welcomes contributions to further its work. If you would like to support or sponsor our activities and events, please visit our We Welcome Your Help page or contact Anne Akabori, Chair, at 916-428-7409 or by e-mail.
